Herrington Country Park, Penshaw, Sunderland

Land renewal works at the former Herrington Colliery. This huge and complex project comprised 25km of hedges, 17km of paths and bridleways, 40ha of trees and 5ha of water features. It has created an embryo country park that is already attracting large numbers of visitors. The project won a BALI National Landscape award for Land Renewal. The wonderful site is now host to the County show (right), attracting huge amounts of visitors each year.
