Tyne Tunnel works Progressing
Tyne Tunnel works are progressing nicely despite the terrible weather that has hit the North East of England recently, effecting most of Brambledowns sites North of Durham and also throughout sites in Yorkshire where work has been suspended due to snow.
Brambledown have commenced work at both ends of the new Tyne Tunnel in Newcastle. Brambledown have been awarded the contract to provide major external works to the entrance ways to the new Tyne Tunnel Newcastle at a value of almost £1 million. These works include large areas of earth moving followed by Civil engineering works and hard and soft landscaping works to various areas of land surrounding new roads leading to the tunnel and areas over the entrance ways. Brambledown are proud to be awarded the landscaping works to the new Tyne Tunnel as it was Brambledown who completed the landscaping works to the original Tyne Tunnel before it opened almost 30 years ago. To be associated with such a prestigious and large scheme for a second time will be a rewarding project for contracts managers Neil Blakelock and Thomas Curry who will supervise numerous heavy machinery onsite, and groups of Brambledown staff as they work around the clock to meet the opening of the new Tyne Tunnel. Brambledown have also provided several aspects of value engineering for the clients and Neville Clay has worked closely with the management team on the client side to achieve this.
The tunnel will stay open during the work and traffic management systems will be in place.
The second tunnel is currently still being built as Brambledown carry out their landscaping works around it and the new Tyne Tunnel is due to open in February 2011.
