Brambledown have completed the installation of new football gras spitches in Yorkshire
YOUNGSTERS from Heworth Junior Football Club have scored a winner with their new pitches in Melrosegate thanks to Brambledown.
A grant of £12,865 from the Football Foundation to City of York Council has helped to provide the expanding club with much-needed pitches in the area.
Heworth chairman Nigel Kemp said: "Heworth Junior Football Club is a vital sporting outlet for children within our community.
"Our future aspirations to develop and enhance this facility required us to locate more quality pitches within the area.
"We have been working alongside the City of York Council, the Football Foundation and the North Riding County Football Association to enable this project to be successful and we are delighted with the outcome.
"The pitches look superb and we are already looking forward to developing new teams in readiness for next season. Our thanks go out to all concerned in helping us achieve our aims."
Gary Limbert, the council's football facilities project officer, added: "The designated mini-soccer pitches will offer more opportunities for young people to play football on quality pitches.
"In the last three years, a total of £1.2 million of funding has been accessed and invested on developing new sports pitches and facilities within the city of York.
"Some £267,636 has been invested by the Football Foundation with a further £371,093 coming from the City of York Council and the rest accessed through other sports funders.
"The City of York football facilities development plan is now complete and I would encourage more clubs to come forward and develop their projects.
"Heworth are a good example of what can be achieved."
