Brambledowns Living Wall features in Horticulture Weekly – 27th

Barker and Stonehouse commissioned Brambledown Landscape Services Ltd to refurbish the Living Wall.  Brambledown chose Johnsons, who they have worked with for more than 30 years, to fulfil the client brief. This included retaining the original design of the wall, which was first installed in 2015, with swathes of contrasting colour to give season-long interest. Nick Rogers, contracts manager at Brambledown, said: “We have worked closely with Johnsons of Whixley for over 30 years as our main supplier of high-quality nursery stock. During this time they have provided us with all manner of stock for our landscaping projects, ranging from large mature trees to ornamental shrubs. For this particular planting scheme we mainly used varieties of Heuchera – available in many contrasting leaf colours to achieve a striking display. This was our first involvement in planting a living wall and it has certainly been a learning experience for all involved, but we would relish the opportunity to be involved in similar schemes like this with Johnsons of Whixley in the future. The revamped living wall is a focal point visible to all visitors at the retail park. The store has gone green in other ways including installing an electricity-generating solar panel system and a living roof with self-maintaining vegetation. Iain Richardson, joint managing director at Johnsons of Whixley, said: “The upgraded living wall looks spectacular and we are delighted with the result for both the client and Brambledown, with whom we enjoy a long-standing relationship.
